The victim, identified as Joginder Lakhan Mahato (some reports also put his age as 42 years), has been admitted to Sion Hospital after initial treatment at VN Desai Hospital.

According to Vakola police and reports by NDTV, News18, Times of India and others, the two were in an extramarital relationship for 6-7 years. The woman, who is a mother of two young children (4-7 years old), is the sister-in-law of the victim’s sister. She was repeatedly pressurizing him to leave his wife and marry her, which led to frequent fights between them. Upset, the victim moved to his native Bihar in November 2025 to keep himself away, but she continued threatening him through phone calls.

On his return to Mumbai on December 19, he avoided contacting her. Despite this, around 1:30 am on January 1, he called her to his home in Jambhaliwala, Santa Cruz East, on the pretext of giving her New Year sweets – while her children were sleeping. Police allege that he asked her to take off her pants, took out a knife from the kitchen, and suddenly attacked her private parts, causing profuse bleeding and serious injuries.

The victim ran away, alerted his sons and friends, and was immediately taken to the hospital. Doctors performed emergency surgery; He is recovering but needs further treatment. The accused, identified as Kanchan/Kanchandevi Rakesh Mahato, fled from the spot and is still absconding. The search for him is on, and an FIR has been registered under sections of the Indian Justice Code for causing grievous hurt by dangerous means and criminal intimidation.

The case highlights serious personal conflicts amid extramarital affairs, and has attracted widespread attention as the police investigation continues.
