Misuse of AI is posing a threat to women’s privacy and digital security, MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote a letter to the IT Minister
Mumbai Shiv Sena UBT Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday wrote a letter to Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, in which she has demanded immediate action against the misuse of X platform’s AI chatbot Grok. The MP alleged that some men were using the tool to present images of women in a sexual manner and violate their privacy.

Chaturvedi said in the letter that ‘a new trend’ is emerging on social media, in which photographs of women are uploaded using fake accounts. AI bots are instructed to dress scantily and turn their photos into something sexual. She also pointed out that this abuse is not just limited to fake accounts, but women who share their own photos online are also being targeted.
Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote in her letter that ‘This is unacceptable and a serious misuse of the AI function. What’s worse, Grok is encouraging this behavior by acceding to such requests. This is not only a violation of women’s right to privacy but also unauthorized use of their photographs, which is not only unethical but criminal. She clarified that such misuse of AI is posing a threat to women’s privacy and digital security. The MP urged the Minister to take the matter seriously and implement such strict security measures in AI applications so that digital platforms become safe for women.
Demand to give priority to women’s safety on digital platforms: The MP said that the dignity of women in India cannot be allowed to be violated publicly and digitally. He wrote that ‘Our country cannot become a watchdog of the fact that the dignity of women is violated by approving such prompts in the name of creativity and innovation, publicly and digitally, without any consequences. Chaturvedi cautioned that such patterns are emerging not only on X, but also on other major tech platforms and largely go unchecked. She asked the government to give priority to this issue so that women do not become victims of such crimes and are not left out of the digital world.

Concern over the growing role and misuse of AI
Priyanka Chaturvedi also said that while the development of Artificial Intelligence and its role in making life simpler is welcome, promoting abusive and criminal activities against women is not acceptable. The MP hoped that the Ministry of Information and Electronics would take up the matter with major technology companies and sought a response from the minister. Priyanka Chaturvedi sent a copy of this letter to Parliament Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology Chairman Nishikant Dubey and Secretary S. Has also been sent to Krishnan.
