Home remedies for relief from throat problems

In present times, feeling sore, burning or heaviness in the throat has become a common problem due to increasing pollution. Dust, smoke and poor air quality have a direct impact on the throat. But by adopting some simple home remedies, one can get relief from this problem to a great extent.

Gargling with lukewarm salt water 2 to 3 times a day reduces throat swelling. It is helpful in eliminating bacteria and provides relief from soreness. Keep in mind that the water should not be too hot.

Taking steam at least twice a day clears the throat and nasal passages. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to steam opens the blocked throat and reduces irritation.

The decoction of ginger, basil, black pepper and cinnamon is very beneficial for the throat. This old home remedy provides relief from soreness, swelling and infection.

Drinking lukewarm water throughout the day keeps the throat moist and prevents dryness. However, avoid drinking very hot water, as it may further irritate the throat.

If you do not have lactose intolerance, drinking turmeric milk before sleeping at night is beneficial. The anti-inflammatory properties present in it help in reducing sore throat.

Drinking light herbal tea mixed with some honey in the morning and evening is also beneficial. It soothes the throat and reduces inflammation.

Use a cool or warm mist humidifier in your room before you sleep at night. This maintains moisture in the air and prevents the throat from drying out.
