Justice Mahesh Sonak becomes the new Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, will take command after January 8

Ranchi: Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak was appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court on Friday. According to a Law Ministry notification, Justice Sonak will take charge after the current Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan leaves the post on completion of 62 years of age on January 8.

Presently he is a judge of Bombay High Court. His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium last month. The apex court collegium had also recommended the names of four other judges for the post of chief justices of various high courts. Justice Sonak was appointed judge of the Bombay High Court on 21 June 2013 and will retire on 27 November 2026.
