Four accused arrested in online fraud of crores of rupees from former IPS
Mumbai Punjab Police on Friday arrested four people, including the accused Shera Thakur, from Mira Bhayandar area of Thane district adjacent to Mumbai in connection with the online fraud worth crores involving a former IPS officer in Punjab.
Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has confirmed this. Punjab Police is thoroughly investigating this matter. However, Mumbai Police has not given official information in this regard. It is noteworthy that retired Punjab IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal had shot himself in the chest with a licensed revolver at his home in Patiala last week. Police had found a 12-page suicide note written in the name of the Director General of Police of Punjab from the spot. In this, he had given detailed information about how he was defrauded through a WhatsApp and Telegram group named ‘F-777 DBS Wealth Equity Research Group’.
The accused created a fake dashboard using the name of DBS Bank and embezzled Rs 8 crore 10 lakh by showing Chahal a virtual picture of huge profits. Following the allegations made in Chahal’s suicide note, Punjab Police immediately reached Maharashtra. They arrested the accused Shera Thakur from Bhayandar East area with the help of Navghar police of Mira-Bhayandar.
Investigation has revealed that suspicious transactions worth crores of rupees were made in the bank accounts of Shera Thakur and his gang. A notorious bookie named Pandey is also included in this gang and it is coming to light that this racket is related to cricket betting and cyber fraud. In this case, Punjab Police had arrested two other accused from Thane two days ago and also recovered 50 SIM cards from them. Punjab Police is thoroughly interrogating all these accused.
