Veteran actor Faisal Rehman, known for his extensive work in Pakistani films and television, has opened up about the limitations of the local drama industry and why Pakistani content has not reached global platforms like Netflix.

Rehman, who began his acting career at the age of fourteen and rose to fame alongside Babra Sharif in films, recently appeared on Wasi Shah’s talk show Zabardast. Over the years, he has earned acclaim for television roles in popular dramas such as Kaisi Aurat Hoon Main, Besharam, Vasl, Aatish, Ranjish Hi Sahi, Gumrah, Qarz-e-Jaan, and Wafa Lazim to Nahi.

Speaking about his return to the screen, Rehman clarified, “I am not back on television; I am back on social media. After doing a serial following a ten-year break, I realized the roles offer no scope to improve my craft. There is zero margin for performance. What can an Abbu role do? I want a story, a character, and a good director. I am an actor, not a producer who will make projects for himself.”

Addressing the absence of Pakistani dramas on Netflix, he said, “Our industry is small, and while content is being produced, it lacks originality. Netflix already has offerings from India, and Pakistani dramas often mimic Indian cultural narratives. Without strong storytelling and professionalism, we cannot compete on global platforms.”
