Zak Crawley determined to maintain pressure on Australia’s bowlers in final Ashes Test
Overview:
Crawley is currently ranked third among the series’ top run-scorers, with 256 runs from eight innings at an average of 32, which includes two fifties.
England batter Zak Crawley has confirmed that his team will keep pushing against the Australian bowlers in the fifth and final Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series. The Three Lions head into the decider with a historic win in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), ending their 5,468-day winless streak on Australian soil.
England have successfully avoided a 0-5 series whitewash and now seek a commanding victory in the final Test. Zak Crawley emphasised that England’s attacking approach will continue, particularly focusing on Todd Murphy if the Australian off-spinner is included in the playing XI.
“Whoever takes the field, our team’s approach is to always try and apply pressure. Todd’s a skilled bowler, but we’ll certainly look to put pressure on him, just like we would with all their bowlers. It comes with some risks, and if the pitch is turning, he’ll definitely be a threat,” said Crawley ahead of the fifth Test.
The opening batter mentioned that securing a 3-2 series result would be incredibly meaningful for the team, reflecting the strong character and unity in the squad.
“I think there’s a significant difference in our group. If we manage to get a win, it really reflects how united we are. The series might not go in our favour, but if we put in a strong performance this week, it’ll say a lot about who we are,” he added.
Crawley is currently ranked third among the series’ top run-scorers, with 256 runs from eight innings at an average of 32, which includes two fifties. After a tough start with two ducks, the right-handed batter bounced back with notable innings of 76 and 44 in Brisbane, and a solid 85 in Adelaide.
He played a key role in England’s victory with a match-winning knock of 37 in the fourth innings of the Melbourne Test, helping them make a strong start in their chase of 175 runs. After facing significant criticism early in the series, Crawley will be determined to end on a positive note in the final Test.
England have announced their 12-player squad for the final Test, with Shoaib Bashir and Matthew Potts being added after Gus Atkinson was ruled out of the series.
