Selectors slammed for overlooking Sarfaraz Khan – Tezzbuzz

Mumbai, Jan 2: Former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has strongly criticised the national team selectors and team management for repeatedly ignoring Sarfaraz Khan despite his outstanding form in domestic cricket. He expressed disappointment that chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir have not shown enough confidence in the talented batter.
Vengsarkar’s remarks came after Sarfaraz produced another remarkable performance in domestic cricket, reinforcing his consistency and ability to score big runs under pressure. The former India captain said it is difficult to understand why a player who has repeatedly proved himself is still being denied regular opportunities at the international level.
He pointed out that Sarfaraz has already shown promise in the limited chances he received for India, including an impressive debut series where he contributed crucial runs. However, despite being part of squads in the past, he was often benched, which Vengsarkar described as unfair to a player who has worked hard to reach this stage.
Calling the situation a “real shame”, Vengsarkar warned that such decisions send a discouraging message to domestic cricketers who dedicate years to proving their worth. He added that Sarfaraz has the capability to represent India across formats and deserves a fair, consistent run in the national side.
The debate over Sarfaraz Khan’s exclusion has once again opened discussions on India’s selection policies, with many fans and former cricketers echoing similar concerns. Whether this strong criticism will bring about a change in approach remains to be seen as India continues to prepare for upcoming international challenges.
