‘Friends’ in Yemen Become an enemy! Saudi airstrike on UAE supported fighters, 7 killed; increased stress

Saudi Arabia Airstrikes Yemen: Yemen’s civil war has now reached a point where Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which once fought the rebels together, are standing face to face. Saudi Arabia launches UAE-backed ‘Southern Transitional Council’ in Yemen’s Hadramaut province. (STC) targets have been targeted by air strikes, which has created panic in the entire Arab world.

At least seven people have been confirmed dead in these attacks. This action was taken in Yemen’s Hadramaut province where conflict over control continues between Saudi-backed forces and separatist fighters.

Tension between Saudi Arabia and UAE openly

The incident comes at a time when the Saudi Arabia-led coalition is trying to strengthen its hold in Yemen’s eastern provinces. Last month, STC fighters entered the oil-rich areas of Hadramaut and Al-Mahra and captured several strategic targets, after which tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE came to the fore.

Ahmed bin Baraik, deputy head of the STC and former governor of Hadramaut, alleged that Saudi-backed National Shield Forces tried to advance towards his camps. When the separatist forces refused to retreat, Saudi Arabia resorted to air strikes.

UAE indicated to reduce tension

A spokesman for Yemen’s army called the attacks a harsh but necessary step towards restoring law and order. He said that it has become clear that fundamentalist and separatist forces will not be able to survive in Yemen for long.

Earlier, after an attack in a port city, the UAE had announced the withdrawal of its troops from Yemen, indicating easing of tensions. The UAE Defense Ministry said via state news agency WAM that recent developments could affect the security and effectiveness of their counter-terrorism operations. However, the timeline for complete withdrawal of troops has not been made clear yet.

How much was the loss?

Early on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia also destroyed a consignment of weapons being sent to UAE-backed groups in Yemen in an airstrike. After this, the forces involved in the coalition against the Houthi rebels demanded the UAE to withdraw its troops within 24 hours.

Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s Presidential Council, has also repeatedly called for the withdrawal of STC forces from the eastern provinces. He said that these groups are a direct challenge to Yemen’s sovereignty, national unity and the authority of the legitimate government.
