Actually, Life Insurance Corporation of India Limited (LIC) holds a major stake in ITC. He has 15.86% stake in this company. According to September quarter data, ITC holds about 198.58 crore shares more than LIC. In such a situation, due to the huge fall in ITC shares in the last two days, the investment value of LIC has declined by more than Rs 11,460 crore.
ITC is in bad shape due to government’s decision
Let us tell you that on Wednesday, 31 December 2025, the Central Government announced the imposition of excise duty on cigarette and pan masala products. According to the notification issued by the government, now duty ranging from Rs 2050 to Rs 8500 will be imposed on per 1000 cigarette sticks. This will be decided based on the length of the cigarette. This rule will come into effect from February 1. Most importantly, this excise duty will be in addition to GST of 40%. This means that cigarette manufacturing companies will have to face a double blow.

There was a huge decline in the company’s shares also
After this decision of the government, on Thursday, January 1 ITC stock Reached its biggest intraday fall in the last six years. It registered a decline of up to 10%. At the same time, the trend of decline continued even today and the shares fell further by 5% to a 52-week low of Rs 345.25. During Thursday’s session, ITC shares fell 5.92 percent to Rs 379.1 on BSE. At the same time, in intra-day it fell by 5.96 percent to Rs 379.00. This is the record low for ITC shares in the last one year.
