New Delhi. Eight US MPs have written a letter in support of former JNU student Omar Khalid, who is lodged in Tihar Jail on charges of 2020 Delhi riots. In a letter sent to Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra, the US lawmakers have sought information from the Indian government as to how the ongoing judicial process against Umar Khalid and other co-accused is in line with international standards. The letter is signed by Jim McGovern, Jamie Raskin, Jan Schakowsky, Chris Van Hollen, Peter Welch, Pramila Jayapal, Rashida Tlaib and Lloyd Doggett. While sharing the photo of Rahul Gandhi with American MP John Schakowsky, BJP has explained how the anti-India lobby works.

BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari wrote on social media X, ‘In 2024, John Schakowsky meets Rahul Gandhi in America, along with him is anti-India Ilhan Omar. In January 2025, she re-introduced the International Combating Islamophobia Act, which explicitly names India and accuses it of repressive actions against Muslim communities. Now in 2026, the same John Schakowsky writes a letter to the Indian government and expresses concern about Umar Khalid. The same Umar Khalid who is accused under UAPA in serious cases related to riots and violence.

Bhandari said, whenever anti-India talks are spread abroad, Rahul Gandhi’s name comes up again and again. Those who want to weaken India, defame India’s elected government and weaken India’s anti-terrorism laws are essentially seen gathering around Rahul Gandhi. Let us tell you that earlier a letter was also issued by the new New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani supporting Omar Khalid.
