Number of voters with ‘factual inconsistency’ declined during SIR in West Bengal – ..

Kolkata, January 03: There has been a significant reduction in the number of voters in West Bengal due to ‘factual inconsistency’ revealed during the special intensive revision of the voter list. The Election Commission said on Friday that the number of 1.36 crore voters whose names were earlier kept in this category has now reduced to 94 lakh 49 thousand. That means there has been a total reduction of 41 lakh 51 thousand cases. Commission sources say that this number may decrease further after the hearing process is completed.

According to the Election Commission, ‘factual discrepancy’ means cases where abnormality was found in the name, age or family details of the voter. In many cases the name did not match, at some places the difference between the age of the voter and the father was found to be less than 15 years or more than 50 years. In some cases, there was a discrepancy between the age of the voter and the grandfather. The Commission had earlier reported the number of such cases as 1.67 crore, which was later revised to 1.36 crore and now it has been reduced to 94 lakh 49 thousand.

The Commission has also shared detailed data. The number of cases involving six voters combined with one person is 23 lakh. The cases of names not being found have been reported as 51 lakh. The difference of less than 15 years between the age of the father and the voter has been found in four lakh 74 thousand cases, while the difference of more than 50 years has been found in eight lakh 41 thousand cases. There are three lakh cases of discrepancy between the age of the voter and the grandfather.

Trinamool Congress is already raising questions regarding this ‘factual inconsistency’ list. Party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had alleged how the Election Commission released the draft voter list and the so-called ‘factual inconsistency’ list on the same day without any official press release. He had said that this list was shared only through message channels and he has all the proof of it.

Meanwhile, after ‘No Mapping’, the Commission has now prepared to start the process of hearing the voters related to ‘Prajni Mapping’. ‘Progeny mapping’ means cases where the same person is named as the father of more than six voters. That is, separate enumeration forms of six or more children have been submitted in the name of the same parent.

According to the sources of the Commission, in some cases the relationship of up to a hundred voters has been shown in the name of the same father. About 24 lakh voters are included in this category. Notices have been prepared to call them for hearing and notice distribution will start soon.
