Will traveling on Delhi-Dehradun highway be expensive? New parking rates released, know how much it will affect your pocket

There is news of great relief and change for the drivers plying on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway. The National Highway Authority of India has implemented amendments in the rules and fees of the proposed parking system on the highway. Its purpose is to prevent irregular parking, jams and accidents on the highway, as well as to provide better facilities to passengers and transport agencies. NHAI official Arvind Kumar said that this new arrangement will especially reduce the traffic problem caused by trucks parked under and on the sides of Gandhi Nagar Market, Geeta Colony, East District Officer’s Office and the flyover.

National Highway Logistics Management Limited, a subsidiary of NHAI, has proposed to develop systematic parking on elevated stretches of Delhi-Dehradun Highway, service roads under flyovers and at selected vacant places. Applications have been sought from agencies to develop the parking capacity of more than one thousand vehicles at these places. Under the new system, now not only cars or two-wheelers but also buses and trucks can be parked at designated parking spots. For this, instead of hourly fee, monthly pass system has been implemented, which will provide relief to the drivers who use the highway daily. NHAI officials say that last year the scheme could not be fully implemented because the fees and conditions were very strict. This time, by amending the rules, emphasis has been laid on attracting agencies and making operations easier.

Whereas for parking for 10 to 24 hours, Rs 200 will be charged from two-wheeler and Rs 300 from car. The monthly pass rate has been fixed at Rs 600 for a two-wheeler and Rs 1200 for a car.

The rate of monthly pass for commercial vehicles has been kept at Rs 6000 for buses and trucks, while for big commercial vehicles it has been kept at Rs 9900.

Direct action will be taken against illegal parking

Along with the new parking system, monitoring is also being tightened. Teams of Delhi Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police will jointly keep an eye on illegal parking encroachments and rule violations on the highway and surrounding areas. Officials claim that the objective of this entire scheme is not just to collect fees but to make the Delhi-Dehradun Highway jam-free, safe and organized. In the coming time, this model can be implemented on other national highways also.
