Why is Pakistan buying fighter jets from Bangladesh instead of China or America? Know the reason behind this?

Pakistan has made a major breakthrough in its defense export plans as early as 2026. Pakistan Army has confirmed that the deal to sell JF-17 Thunder fighter jets to Bangladesh is almost complete. Now the question arises that why Bangladesh is buying this fighter jet from Pakistan, when options like China and America are available.

JF-17 Thunder is a jointly developed fighter aircraft, jointly designed by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and China. The project began in the 1990s and production began in the early 2000s in Kamra, Punjab province of Pakistan. About 58% of the aircraft’s components are made in Pakistan and 42% in China, while final assembly takes place in Pakistan.

Bangladesh is in dire need of modernizing its air force fleet, as their current fleet primarily relies on Chinese F-7 and a limited number of Russian MIG-29 aircraft. Bangladesh was looking for a modern, affordable alternative. The price of JF-17 is much lower than other American or European jets, making it better in terms of cost.

An additional feature of the JF-17 is that it uses Chinese avionics, engines and weapons, which is fully compatible with Bangladesh’s existing systems. Because of this, this aircraft can prove to be a better option for Bangladesh.

Additionally, political relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan have improved over the years, creating an opportunity to reinvigorate cooled ties through defense cooperation. The deal also sends a regional political message, and there is also the possibility of avoiding expensive prices and political conditions in purchasing American jets.
