‘This’ is the country’s first Gearbox E Bike, priced below 2 lakhs
- Strong demand for electric vehicles in India
- Consumer support for e-bikes
- Matter Era 5000 Plus is the country’s first gearbox bike
The electric two-wheeler segment in India has so far been dominated by scooters. However, now a gradual change is seen in the bike segment. In this changing trend, the Matter Era 5000 Plus is emerging as an electric bike with a distinct identity. This bike is equipped with a manual gearbox, a feature that makes it different from other electric bikes.
Futuristic design and sporty approach
The design of Matter Era 5000 Plus is completely modern and futuristic. The front gets projector LED headlamps and LED DRLs, giving the bike a sharp and aggressive look. Angled body panels give the bike a sporty look even when standing.

What looks like a fuel tank in the side profile actually covers the battery, while the powertrain sits underneath. A split seat setup, alloy wheels and a tapered tail section complete the design.
Digital Control Center
One of the major attractions of this electric bike is its 7-inch TFT touchscreen display. This display is not only large in size, but also very advanced in terms of features. On the same screen, the rider gets speed, battery level, trip details and important information related to the ride. The positioning of the display is such that information can be easily viewed while riding and does not distract from the road.
This display is not only limited to the instrument cluster, but also features rider profile, smartphone notifications, as well as navigation through MapMyIndia. The rider can customize the screen layout and features as per his needs, so this bike feels premium in terms of technology.

5 kWh battery and liquid-cooling system
The Matter Era 5000 Plus is powered by a 5 kWh battery and comes with an in-built liquid-cooling system. Liquid cooling is still rare in the electric two-wheeler segment, so this feature makes the bike technically stronger.
Liquid cooling ensures good thermal management even under high stress on the battery and motor. The biggest feature of this bike is the 4-speed manual gearbox. A 10.5 kW permanent magnet motor is coupled to the gearbox.
Most electric bikes come with a single-speed transmission, but here the gearbox gives the rider more control and a feel like engine braking.
Riding modes and performance
Matter Era 5000 Plus has three riding modes namely Eco, City and Sport. The top speed of this bike is said to be around 105 kmph in Sport mode. Also, this bike takes about 6 seconds to reach the speed of 0 to 60 kmph. These figures show that this bike is not only limited to city but also capable of highway riding.
Suspension, braking and handling
The bike gets telescopic forks at the front and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear. While the front suspension feels balanced in city riding, the rear suspension can feel a bit stiff. The braking setup is said to be adequate for everyday use, but some riders may expect a more progressive feel in the front brakes.
Price
The Matter Era 5000 Plus is said to be priced at Rs 1.84 lakh ex-showroom. There is another variant available in the same line-up, which has the same powertrain, albeit with fewer features. In terms of price, this bike ranks in the premium electric two-wheeler segment.
