Raigarh Court’s decision: 20 years jail for the accused of raping a minor

The court sentenced Chandrabhushan Baraith, accused of raping a minor in Raigarh, to 20 years in jail and a fine of Rs 5,500. The accused had lured a 16-year-old girl away in June 2024.

Chhattisgarh: In June 2024, Chandrabhushan alias Chunnu Baraith (22), resident of village Bade Sipat of Jutmil police station area, lured a 16-year-old minor girl and ran her away from home. The girl’s father lodged a complaint in the police station on June 8, 2024 and accused Chandrabhushan on the basis of his suspicion.

The father told that his daughter was lured away by an unknown person between 11 pm and 1 am. The police immediately started investigation and started searching for the accused.

Search for accused and victim

Investigation revealed that the accused and the victim were in Basheerabad, Secunderabad, Telangana. The police reached there with the help of local officials, recovered the minor girl safely and arrested the accused.

On July 1, both were brought to Jutmil police station in Raigarh, where a female police officer recorded the statement of the victim. After this the police started legal action and the matter was sent to the court.

Additional Sessions Judge, FTSC POCSO Judge Devendra Sahu heard the case. The court found the accused guilty after hearing the arguments from both sides.

Chandrabhushan Baraith was sentenced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,500. The court also directed that if the accused does not pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional 4 months of jail sentence.
