Nowadays, microwave oven is present in almost every house. From heating food to baking and grilling, microwaves have made kitchen tasks much easier. However, a little carelessness or misuse can damage the microwave, leading not only to costly repairs but also to the need to purchase a new appliance. The biggest mistake that people often make is keeping metal utensils in the microwave. Steel, aluminum foil, or utensils with golden edges may cause sparks in the microwave. This causes sparking inside the machine, which can damage the magnetron of the microwave. This is the most important and expensive part of the microwave.
Another common mistake is running an empty microwave. Many people unknowingly turn on the microwave without keeping anything in it. By doing this, the energy of the microwave is not able to come out and keeps hitting the inside of the machine directly, due to which the internal parts can get heated and get damaged.
Additionally, heating sealed containers or eggs in the microwave can also prove dangerous. In closed containers, steam cannot escape, which can cause them to burst. This not only spreads dirt inside the microwave, but can also damage the door and glass.
Many people do not pay attention to regular cleaning of the microwave. Food splatters and oil keep accumulating inside, which causes foul smell and also affects the heating. If cleaning is not done for a long time, the performance of the microwave gradually starts decreasing.
Another serious mistake is covering the microwave ventilation. A microwave needs air to cool properly. If it is kept stuck to the wall or the ventilation is turned off, overheating problems may arise.
Experts say that proper use of microwave and a little care can extend its lifespan by many years. Always use microwave-safe utensils, do not run the machine empty and clean it from time to time.
