Who is Owen Cooper? 16 year old created history by winning Golden Globes award, speech won hearts

Recently, a huge record was made in the Golden Globe Awards held on 11 January 2026. 16 year old young actor Owen Cooper won the Best Supporting Actor award for his amazing acting in Netflix’s superhit series ‘Adolescence’. With this victory he became the youngest winner in this category. Earlier this record was in the name of Glee famous Chris Colfer, who won this award in 2010 at the age of 20. Owen broke that record and also became the second youngest male Golden Globe winner ever. The record for the youngest age is still held by Ricky Schroder, who at the age of 9 won in a special new star category in 1980 for the film ‘The Champ’.

Owen left behind many big names for this award. Opposite her were: Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), Walton Goggins and Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), Trammell Tillman (Severance) and Ashley Walters from her own series ,Adolescence,. After winning, Owen looked very happy and a little surprised on the stage. He gave his speech very lovingly. He said, ,It doesn,t feel surreal at all to be standing here at the Golden Globes. My family and I have traveled an amazing journey. We will always be grateful to all these people who helped me. ,

What did Owen think about himself?

He also told about his beginning of acting. Owen said that he thought he would either be good or very bad, but he gathered courage and joined the drama class. He was the only boy there, so he felt very embarrassed in the beginning, but he did not give up and kept moving forward. Owen further said, ‘I am still just a student, I am learning something new every day. Even today I am learning from those great people who inspired me. Whatever is happening is really shocking. Currently, Owen is working in Warner Bros’ upcoming film ‘Wuthering Heights’, in which Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are with him.

He ended his speech in a very positive manner. He said, ‘Welcome to 2026, you will never walk alone.’ (He has taken this line from the famous song ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ of his favorite football team Liverpool FC, which is proof of his being a fan!) Talking about the ‘Adolescence’ series, Owen played the role of 13 year old Jamie Miller in it. The story is of a family whose 13-year-old son is arrested on suspicion of murdering his classmate. This series is very emotional and deep, in which Stephen Graham has played the role of Jamie’s father. Last year, this series became the second most watched English series on Netflix. Owen had already made history in September by winning an Emmy Award, when he became the youngest male actor to win an acting award.
