Bank accounts are getting emptied in the name of Fastag recharge, read this new alert of NHAI before going on the highway. – ..

News India Live, Digital Desk: We all want our journey on the highway to be completed without any hindrance. Cyber thugs are taking advantage of this these days. NHAI has noticed that for the last few days, vehicle owners have been receiving such messages and phone calls in which they are promised “Fastag Annual Pass”.

How is the web of fraud woven?
Fraudsters will give you an attractive offer. They will say that you do not need to pay toll every time, just pay a small amount and get an ‘Annual Pass’. After this you will be sent a message which will contain a link. This link will look exactly like the real website of the government or bank. As soon as you fill in your information or make payment on that link, fraudsters gain access to your mobile or steal your card information.

What has NHAI said?
NHAI has clarified that they never send such unknown links for any service or annual pass related to Fastag. Most of the Fastag services are available through your Authorized Banks or official MyFastag Are given through the app only. If you find the URL of any website suspicious, do not click on it even by mistake.

Some easy ways to avoid it (Smart Tips):

  1. Identification of real and fake: For any Fastag update or pass, use only the official ‘MyFastag’ app or your respective bank’s website.
  2. Distance from suspicious link: Do not trust any Fastag recharge link coming on social media or WhatsApp. These may be a way to ‘clean out’ your bank account.
  3. Truth about customer care: Don’t call random numbers you find on Google. Often these numbers belong to scammers. Use only the helpline number written on the back of Fastag.
  4. Annual pass hoax: Currently, toll-free or deeply discounted annual passes are available only at toll plaza counters subject to certain criteria and based on local ID (20 km radius), and are not sold online through anonymous messages.

One thing while passing by…
As much as convenience is important in travelling, our vigilance is equally important. Cyber thieves are waiting for your slightest carelessness. Next time whenever someone lures you with a huge discount or ‘cheap pass’ on Fastag, understand that this is just a way to cheat. Stay safe and warn your loved ones too.
