From stomach to heart, which radish is right for you – Obnews

Radish is considered a common but very useful vegetable in Indian kitchen during winter season. From salads to sabzi and parathas, radish is eaten in many forms. However, two types of radish – white and red – are easily available in the market. In such a situation, this question often arises in the minds of consumers whether white radish or red radish is more beneficial?

According to nutritionists, both types of radish are beneficial for health, but their nutrients and benefits are slightly different. The right choice depends on your health needs and taste preferences.

White radish is the most consumed variety in India. It has high water content, which helps in keeping the body hydrated. Vitamin C, fiber, potassium and some amount of folate are found in white radish. It is considered especially beneficial for the digestive system. Consumption of white radish can provide relief to people suffering from constipation, gas and indigestion. In Ayurveda, it is considered a vegetable that cleanses the liver and removes toxic elements from the body.

Whereas red radish has a different identity due to its attractive color. It also contains Vitamin C in abundance, but its specialty is the antioxidants like anthocyanin present in it, which give it red color. These elements help reduce inflammation in the body, improve heart health and protect cells from damage. Red radish also has good amount of fiber, which is considered helpful in weight control.

If we talk about immunity, both radishes help in increasing the immunity of the body. However, red radish gets a slight edge due to its abundance of antioxidants. White radish is considered more effective in terms of digestion and detox.

Experts say that while choosing radish, attention should be paid not only to its color but also to its freshness. It is better to buy only those radishes which are hard, heavy and without blemishes. Radishes with a strong smell or that are soft are not considered fresh.

It is also worth noting that people who have thyroid, gas or sensitive stomach problems should consume radish in limited quantities and during the day. Eating radish at night may increase discomfort for some people.
