VHT Quarter Finals: Karnataka and Saurashtra win, Mumbai and UP lose

The results of the first two quarter finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy are out. The teams of Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh, which have been performing brilliantly till now, have suffered a major setback. Even rain could not save Mumbai, playing against Karnataka, and it had to face defeat by 55 runs. On the other hand, Saurashtra team defeated Uttar Pradesh by 17 runs. Interestingly, both the matches were rained out and both the results came through Vijay Jayadevan (VJD) system.

 

Earlier, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh had qualified for the quarter-finals from Group A, UP and Vidarbha from Group B, Punjab and Mumbai from Group C and Delhi and Saurashtra from Group D. On the first day, four teams played two matches and two teams have confirmed their place in the semi-finals. The remaining four teams will play their matches on Tuesday. After both the matches on Tuesday, it will be decided which team will face whom in the semi-finals.

karnataka vs mumbai

 

The Karnataka team, which was the topper of its group, had won the toss against Mumbai and decided to bowl first. Mumbai team’s batting could not last long and due to wickets falling at regular intervals, it could score only 254 runs after losing 8 wickets in 50 overs. Shams Mulani scored the highest score of 86 runs. In the end Sairaj Patil showed his good hands and scored 33 runs in 25 balls.

 

Karnataka’s bowling was excellent. Vidvarth Kavarappa gave only 43 runs in 10 overs and took 2 wickets. Vidyadhar Patil got 3 wickets, Abhilash Shetty got 2 wickets and Vijaykumar Vyashk got 1 wicket.

 

 

 

 

When Karnataka team captain Mayank Agarwal, who was chasing the target, was out in the 10th over, the team’s score was 44 runs. However, after this the Mumbai team could not get any batsman out. In the next 23 overs, Devdutt Paddikal and Karun Nair batted brilliantly and took the team’s score to 187 runs. At this time rain disrupted the match and after this the match could not be played. The result came from VJD system according to which Karnataka team was ahead by 55 runs. As a result, it won and Devdutt Padikkal became the man of the match.

Saurashtra vs UP

 

UP team was also the topper of its group and did not lose a single match this season. Saurashtra won the toss in the match but they also bowled first. UP’s Aryan Juyal was out for 0 runs but Abhishek Goswami played an inning of 88 runs. In the middle, Priyam Garg scored 35 runs and in the end Sameer Rizvi’s 88 runs took the team’s score to 310 runs in 50 overs. Chetan Sakariya got 3 wickets for Saurashtra. Whereas, Ankur Panwar and Prerak Mankad got 2-2 wickets.

 

Saurashtra captain and opener Harvik Desai batted brilliantly and scored a century while remaining unbeaten in the important match. On the other side, Prerak Mankad scored 67 runs and Chirag Jani scored 40 runs. When Saurashtra’s score was 238 runs in the 41st over, it started raining and the match had to be stopped there. VJD system was used in this match also and Saurashtra team won by 17 runs. Prerak Mankad was chosen man of the match in this match.
