Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1, which is proposed on Sunday. Apart from financial proposals, several legislative and other government business will also be discussed during the session, which includes debates on policy, social and economic issues.
As per the budget session tradition, the President’s address opens the way for presentation and discussion of the government agenda in Parliament, thereby formally opening the proceedings of the House and providing key policy guidelines to the members.
It is noteworthy that in view of the difficulties being faced in budget preparations, it was decided to change the date of budget in the year 2017. After this, the general budget started being presented in the beginning of February i.e. on 1st February. This gave the Center and the states about two months time to implement the schemes.
