This young batsman created new history in Vijay Hazare Trophy

New Delhi: India’s young batsman Devdutt Padikkal has achieved another important achievement in domestic cricket. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, he has set a record that is unmatched by any batsman. Padikkal has now become the first player in Vijay Hazare Trophy history to score more than 700 runs in two different seasons.

Padikkal achieved this feat in the quarter-finals against Mumbai at the BCCI Center of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru. Before this match, he needed only 60 runs to score 700 runs in this season, which he completed in the 24th over.

Earlier, many batsmen have scored more than 700 runs in a single season in Vijay Hazare Trophy, but only Devdutt Padikkal has achieved this record in two seasons. Last time he scored 737 runs in 7 innings in the 2020-21 season.

Players who have scored more than 700 runs in different seasons include big names like Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, Narayan Jagadeesan and Karun Nair. But only Devdutt Padikkal has been successful in achieving this feat in two different seasons.

Padikkal is very close to another big record. Narayan Jagadishan has set a record of scoring 830 runs in a season. Padikkal is now on the verge of breaking this record. He has a few matches left in the tournament and if his performance continues like this, he can become the highest run-scorer.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, Padikkal’s performance has been remarkable. So far he has scored four centuries and two half-centuries. He started the tournament with an impressive innings of 147 runs against Jharkhand and followed it up with 124 runs against Kerala. Although he was out for 22 runs against Tamil Nadu, his confidence was not affected. He played century innings against Puducherry and Tripura. He missed a century by scoring 91 runs against Rajasthan, while he scored 35 runs against Madhya Pradesh. He created history by scoring an unbeaten 81 runs against Mumbai in the quarter-finals.
