New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected Bangladesh’s demand for the T20 World Cup 2026 to avoid its matches in India. After long-standing questions regarding security, the ICC has clarified that there is no need to make any changes to the match venues at present.
An independent security assessment conducted by the ICC states that there is no serious threat to the Bangladesh team in India. According to the report, the security risk during the tournament is considered to be low to moderate, which is normal for any international sporting event.
Resolution of dispute related to Mustafizur Rahman
Bangladesh had also claimed that the presence of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman could increase the security risk, on this basis they had demanded to move the match out of India. But, the ICC report has rejected such concerns.
According to news agency PTI, the ICC has said that appropriate security measures have been taken for players, officials and team staff and these can be further strengthened if required.
Matches will be held in Kolkata and Mumbai
As per the T20 World Cup schedule, Bangladesh is scheduled to play four matches in the league stage in India, including in major cities like Kolkata and Mumbai. In the assessment of security agencies, these cities have been considered safe and no specific danger has been indicated here.
BCB’s change stance
Initially the Bangladesh government and the Sports Ministry had taken a tough stand but later the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to retract its statement. BCB has clarified that ICC has not yet given any official response on moving the matches out of India, but it has put forward its concerns to ICC keeping security in mind.
ICC has confidence in security
The ICC has confirmed that it has full confidence in the BCCI and India’s local security agencies. India has a long record of hosting major sporting events safely and security plans for the T20 World Cup will also be regularly reviewed.
