Prabhas’s ‘The Raja Saab’ performed disappointingly in Monday test, difficulty in recovering the budget

Mumbai: Prabhas’s recent film ‘The Raja Saab’ is not performing as per expectations at the box office. This horror-comedy film, released on January 9, 2026, initially took a good opening, but now it is showing a rapid decline. The film’s earnings have declined significantly, especially in the first Monday test. The film collected Rs 9.15 crore during the preview shows.

Prabhas’s ‘The Raja Saab’ fails in Monday test

In the opening day of the first day, this film made a great collection of Rs 53.75 crore in India, which shows the stardom of Prabhas. However, on the second day it fell drastically by 51.63% and came down to just Rs 26 crore. On Sunday, which was a holiday, the film’s collection again fell by 26.54% to Rs 19.1 crore. On the fourth day i.e. Monday, it has collected only Rs 5.4 crore (in some reports between Rs 5-6 crore). In this way, the total net collection of the film in four days has reached close to Rs 113 crore in India.

Could not recover half the budget even after four days

The film has earned more than Rs 180 crore globally, but its performance in the domestic market is far behind Prabhas’s previous successful films. The film has received widely negative reviews. Critics and audiences have described its script as weak, the story long and without logic. The combination of horror and comedy could not be done properly, due to which the word of mouth also got spoiled.

Prabhas’s acting and screen presence have been praised, but the film as a whole did not receive the support it required. Furthermore, piracy also affected the performance of the film, as it was leaked online the very next day of its release. According to reports, the budget of the film is between Rs 300-400 crore, with a lot of money spent on VFX, sets and production. Prabhas had cut his fees by 33% so that the budget could be utilized better. But the current trend seems to suggest that the film will still have a long way to go to reach break-even.

Performance of ‘The Raja Saab’ disappointing

Compared to Prabhas’ previous films like ‘Bahubali’ and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, the performance of ‘The Raja Saab’ has been quite disappointing. Directed by Maruthi, the horror-comedy stars Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agarwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani and Yogi Babu. The makers have already announced the sequel ‘The Raja Saab 2: Circus 1935’, but the recovery of the first part has now become a challenge.

Now the Sankranthi holidays and competition from new releases may add further difficulty for the film. Currently, old films like ‘Dhurandhar’ are also doing well at the box office, due to which ‘The Raja Saab’ may have to face more pressure. Overall, this film of Prabhas has not been a hit yet, rather it seems to be moving towards a flop.
