some soldiers were dismissed

According to officials, so far 8 to 10 soldiers have been dismissed from service after completion of all medical and legal procedures. Action is going on in other cases also. All these soldiers were found to be suffering from alcohol addiction for many years. When no improvement was seen in these soldiers even after warnings, a decision was taken to dismiss them.

were becoming a threat to security

SSB officials say that after drinking alcohol, border security personnel can become a threat not only to their own safety but also to their colleagues and the general public. If such soldiers are unable to consume alcohol, they may take violent or suicidal steps. Officials say that soldiers in every unit have some weapons, so the risk increases further.

PTI reports that SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal took a tough stance on the issue in a recent review meeting. Following the instructions, such soldiers have been kept at the lowest level of medical category. He has been removed from any kind of operational or field duty. After this, the process of dismissing him has been started.

There was no improvement in the soldiers

According to officials, the soldiers whose services are being terminated were being treated for several years but there was no improvement in their condition. For this reason the force decided that it is not appropriate to retain such personnel in service.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, an alcohol dependent person spends most of his time obtaining alcohol, drinking it and recovering from its effects. Continuous consumption of alcohol despite knowing about its harm is also a major sign of it. Overall, the entire life of a person dependent on alcohol revolves around alcohol. If he does not get alcohol, he starts acting crazy and sometimes even harms another person.

Responsibility of Seema lies with SSB

About 90 thousand soldiers are deployed in SSB. The force guards the unfenced international borders with Nepal (1,751 km) and Bhutan (699 km). This paramilitary force works under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
