Trump gave this information by posting on Truth Social on Monday night.
He said that this decision will come into effect with immediate effect. However, no official document regarding this tariff has been issued by the White House. America has already imposed strict economic sanctions on Iran. According to the report, the major countries doing business with Iran include China, United Arab Emirates and India.
Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that America will impose a 25 percent tariff on any country doing business with Iran, which will increase economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners. If any country does business with Iran, it will have to pay 25 percent tax on every trade with America. He said that this rule will come into effect immediately. No changes will be made in this. According to media reports, countries like China, Brazil, Turkey and Russia have trade relations with Iran. In such a situation, this decision can have a direct impact on these countries. Besides, Iran is also a big trading partner of India, so its impact will be visible on India too.
China, UAE and India are Iran’s main partners
According to the available data of World Bank 2022, Iran traded the most with China, UAE and India. Iran mainly exports oil, petrochemicals and industrial products to these countries. Despite US sanctions, Iran continues its trade through Asia and the Gulf countries. Iran’s total trade in 2022 will be around $140 billion. In this, Iran’s export was 80.9 billion dollars and import was about 58.7 billion dollars. The largest shares of Iran’s exports are crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas. Apart from this, petrochemicals, steel, copper, agricultural products and minerals are also exported. Iran mainly imports machinery, electronic equipment, industrial raw materials and medicines.
Want to find solution through talks
Trump had earlier said that America can talk to Iranian officials and he is also in touch with Iranian opposition leaders. He expressed displeasure over the death of protesters in Iran and also warned of military action while increasing pressure on the government. However, on Monday, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt made it clear that America’s first choice is still negotiations. He said that attacking is definitely an option, but the President wants to find a solution through dialogue first.

Tension between America and Iran
