Anthony Davis won’t require surgical treatment
Anthony Davis received unexpectedly positive news regarding his left hand injury, learning he will not need surgery and could return in roughly six weeks.
The update reversed earlier expectations of a season-ending procedure and keeps his year alive with the Dallas Mavericks currently sitting outside the Western Conference playoff picture.
“Once surgery was ruled out, everything shifted,” one league source said.
The injury occurred late in Thursday’s loss to the Utah Jazz while Davis was defending Lauri Markkanen.
Before exiting, the big man posted 21 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and a block in 35 minutes.
Initial concern had prompted Dallas to reengage teams like the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks, both previously linked to Davis.
Since arriving from the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2025 trade involving Luka Doncic, Davis has appeared in just 29 regular-season games due to injuries.
Dallas is 10–10 when he plays and 5–15 without him, underscoring his impact despite limited availability.
The Mavericks remain focused on the long term, continuing to build around Rookie of the Year candidate Cooper Flagg while managing draft capital.
Davis, represented by Rich Paul, had explored trade options before the injury and is seeking a situation that includes an extension opportunity this offseason.
