If you are also confused about the Makar Sankranti holiday, then this news is useful for you. The Uttar Pradesh government has suddenly made a big change in the festival holidays. Now there will be a public holiday on 15 January 2026 instead of 14 January. This means that the complete information about whether schools, colleges and banks will remain closed in your city tomorrow i.e. on 15th January is given below.
Why was the holiday date changed?
The Uttar Pradesh government had earlier declared January 14 as a holiday, but now it has been amended. Principal Secretary S.P.S. According to the order issued by Ranga Rao, January 15 will be a public holiday in the entire state.
According to religious beliefs, Ekadashi date (Shattila Ekadashi) is falling on 14 January this year. Consumption and donation of rice and khichdi is considered prohibited on the day of Ekadashi. Since donation and consumption of Khichdi on Makar Sankranti has special significance, many scholars and pundits have advised to celebrate the festival on January 15 only. For this reason, the government has also changed the date of the holiday.
