Update in I-PAC raid case, High Court rejects TMC’s application

ED vs I-PAC: After the ED raid in the Kolkata office of I-PAC, the stir in the politics of West Bengal has intensified. This matter has now reached Kolkata High Court, where it was heard. ED, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and I-PAC—all three had filed petitions in the High Court. The court heard the case live, but no one except the lawyers was allowed to enter the court room.

ED had made this appeal to the High Court

During the hearing, the ED appealed to the High Court that the case should be postponed for the time being, because a case related to this is already going on in the Supreme Court. Terming TMC’s petition as false, ED said that the person who signed the petition was not present at the spot at the time of the raid. The investigating agency also said that the petition is vague and baseless, hence it should be rejected.

Totally denied TMC’s allegations

ED completely denied TMC’s allegations and said that nothing was seized during the raid. The agency claims that all the records and documents were taken away by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her associates. At the same time, no one from I-PAC was present in the court during the hearing, on which ED expressed displeasure and demanded to call I-PAC.

The legality of the case will be investigated – High Court

On this, the High Court clarified that it is investigating the legality of the case, and not the truth of the allegations. ED sought time to file a new petition against Mamata government for making false allegations, which the court approved and gave it two weeks time.

TMC demands recording of ED’s statement

On the other hand, TMC demanded that ED’s statement that nothing was seized in the raid be taken on record. The party alleged that the ED has taken action as part of a political conspiracy and fears that old sensitive data of the party has fallen into the hands of the agency.

HC rejects TMC’s petition

In the end, the High Court rejected TMC’s petition and said that Trinamool party is not a party in the ED case. Besides, ED’s petition has also been put on hold for the time being.
