Mumbai: The shooting of Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming biopic ‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ has now been delayed. According to recent reports, the project was scheduled to start in January 2026, but it is now planned to start in late March 2026. The reason for this delay is said to be to make further changes in the script, so that the film can accurately reflect the greatness of Dadasaheb Phalke.
Has Aamir Khan’s ‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ biopic been delayed?
According to sources, both Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani agree that the film should have a contemporary emotional tone, but it also needs to maintain the historical context. A new draft is being made to strike a balance between humor and seriousness in the script. It is also being ensured that the character arc accurately represents the dignity and contributions of Dadasaheb Phalke. The script is expected to be finalized by February 2026, after which production will begin in late March.
Dadasaheb Phalke is considered the father of Indian cinema. He made ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913, India’s first full-length feature film. This biopic will be the story of his life, struggle and giving a new direction to cinema. Aamir Khan will play the lead role in this film, and Rajkumar Hirani will direct it. This will be their third collaboration, with ‘3 Idiots’ (2009) and ‘PK’ (2014) becoming huge successes at the box office.
Work on the script has been going on for over four years, with writers like Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bhardwaj and Avishkar Bhardwaj involved. Earlier reports had said that Aamir felt the script lacked humor and emotional elements, which necessitated a rewrite. Some reports also suggested stopping the project in 2025, but now it has become clear that this is only a delay for perfection and not a case of cancellation.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is currently busy with the promotional activities of ‘Happy Patel: Dangerous Spy’, which will release on January 16, 2026. He is looking at this biopic as his next big project and considers it a tribute to Indian cinema. Fans are very excited about this pairing as the team of Aamir and Hirani always presents entertainment with a social message. Overall, the film has been delayed, but it’s a positive delay—for the sake of perfection. Soon after the script is locked, the shooting will begin, and the project is expected to brilliantly tell the story of the father of Indian cinema.
