The central government has taken a big decision to remove the strict 10-minute delivery time limit imposed on quick-commerce platforms. This step was taken in view of the safety of gig workers and the increasing pressure on them.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the central government’s decision to remove ’10-minute delivery’ branding from quick-commerce platforms. The move comes at a time when there is an uproar over the immense pressure of constant work on gig workers and delivery riders.
Raghav Chadha said the decision was necessary as the 10-minute delivery target had placed unusual, persistent and dangerous pressure on riders. He also stressed that this decision is now likely to provide relief to the riders both mentally and physically.

He added that over the past few months he had spoken to hundreds of delivery partners, many of whom were overworked, relatively underpaid and risking their lives to meet impossible deadlines. Chadha said, “I thank every citizen who stood with us. We stand firmly in favor of human life, safety and dignity.
Efforts made to understand the problems of gig workers
Raghav Chadha has continuously raised his voice for gig workers in the last few days. He spent the entire day on Monday with a delivery worker to understand his challenges and pressure. During this time, he also shared a video on social media, which showed the real conditions of the workers.
Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a meeting with officials of Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato on Tuesday. In the meeting, keeping in mind the safety and mental health of gig workers, it was advised to remove the strict delivery time limit. The companies assured the government that they will remove this deadline from their advertisements and social media platforms.
Following this, Blinkit removed the 10-minute delivery claim from its platform with immediate effect. Other companies also talked about taking steps in the same direction.
