Security crisis deepens: Has Ayatollah Khamenei prepared an exit plan…Discussions intensify regarding Plan-B
Tehran,. The pressure on the country’s supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reached its peak after the unprecedented public outrage in Iran for the last ten days and the death of more than 500 people in the action of security forces. This movement, which started against inflation, unemployment and repressive policies, has now transformed into a demand for direct change of power. The anger of the protesters who took to the streets is now targeting not only the government but directly Khamenei and his family. Amidst this tense environment, international media reports have further intensified the speculations that if the situation goes out of control, Khamenei has prepared a secret ‘Plan-B’ to leave the country, under which he can take refuge in Russia.
Quoting intelligence reports, it is being claimed that if the intensity of the demonstrations increases or the security forces (especially the army and police) refuse to take action against the protesters, Khamenei may turn to Moscow. According to these discussions, he may leave Iran not alone but with about 20 people, including his family, close associates and possible successor Mojtaba Khamenei. Under this possible plan, huge amount of property is also said to be transferred to safe places. Given the strong strategic and political ties between Khamenei and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia is being considered the safest destination for him.
Earlier, it has also been seen in the developments in Syria that Russia has provided shelter to its allies in times of crisis. Israeli defense experts and international analysts believe that under the current circumstances, Khamenei is left with no other practical option other than Russia. However, the Iranian government and their official spokespersons have rejected these reports outright. The government says that these reports are merely propaganda by foreign powers whose aim is to destabilize the regime.
The market of such rumors is also hot on social media, where many unconfirmed posts are claiming that members of the Khamenei family have already left the country. However, these claims have not yet been confirmed by independent sources. At present the situation in Iran remains very delicate and tense. Although the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has so far remained loyal to the regime, Khamenei may be forced to activate his Plan B if the death toll continues to rise and discontent builds within the security forces. At present, the eyes of the whole world are fixed on the internal developments in Iran and the next step of the regime there.
