America’s U-turn? Trump gave such an answer to the question of coup in Iran, you will not believe after hearing it
News India Live, Digital Desk: The eyes of the whole world are on whatever is happening in Iran these days. People are out on the streets there, slogans are being raised against their own government and the Supreme Leader. And whenever such an uproar happens somewhere in the world, everyone’s eyes first go to one person, America’s President Donald Trump. We all know that America has always been the “contractor of democracy” all over the world. Be it Iraq, Afghanistan or any other country, the rote answer of American Presidents was “We will bring democracy there.” But this time what Donald Trump has said has surprised even the best political pundits. The question was simple, but the answer was crooked. Recently, during an interview, when Donald Trump was asked a question on the current situation in Iran, he fully supported the people of Iran. He acknowledged that the people there are very brave and that they deserve a good life. But, the real twist came when the reporter asked him a direct question: “Do you want Iran to become a democracy?” Normally any American leader would immediately say – “Yes, of course.” But Trump took a pause here and what he said was quite interesting. He said, “I don’t know whether I would use this word (democracy) or not.” Yes, you read it right. He refrained from advocating democracy in clear words. He said, “I just want them (Iranian people) to be happy, their country should be successful and they should have good opportunities.” What does Trump mean by this? Now you must be wondering why the President of a country like America, which is the flag bearer of democracy, is saying this? To understand this, we have to go a little deeper. Actually, Donald Trump has been very much against the old American policy of “Regime Change” i.e. forcefully overthrowing the power of a country. He feels that whenever America has tried to forcibly enter a country and impose democracy (like in Iraq), instead of improving, the situation there has worsened. Trump’s statement indicates that he does not want to get directly involved in Iran’s issue. They want that whatever change happens there, it should be brought by the people there themselves, not America. Trump is focused on only one thing – Iran should not have nuclear weapons and it should not become a threat to America. How they run their country is their headache. What is the message for Iranians? This statement may be a bit confusing for the people protesting on the streets of Iran. On one hand, Trump is saying, “I am with you”, but on the other hand, he is not promising that America will form a democratic government there. Experts believe that this is a systematic move by Trump. He is giving the message to the rulers of Iran that “We are not coming to topple your power, but if you play with our interests, we will not leave either.” Overall, Donald Trump has made it clear that his America will not interfere everywhere by becoming the “police of the world”, but will intervene only where it finds it necessary for its benefit or its security.
