Rajkot: The second match of the ongoing 3-match ODI series between India and New Zealand took place at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. In this match, New Zealand defeated India by 7 wickets and leveled the series at 1-1.

New Zealand’s solid start

New Zealand made a strong start while chasing the target. Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana gave India early success when he bowled out Devon Conway for just 16 runs. After this, Henry Nicholls and Will Young tried to take control of the innings and kept scoring runs on unmatchable balls.

Nichols’ early return

However, this partnership could not last long. Prasidh Krishna dismissed Henry Nicholls for 10 runs in his second over. With this, New Zealand’s score became two wickets for 46 runs.

Important partnership of Mitchell and Young

After this, Will Young along with Daryl Mitchell took the innings forward. Both the batsmen played with patience and faced the Indian bowlers and gradually increased the score. New Zealand crossed the 100-run mark in the 23rd over.

Kuldeep sent pavilion to Young

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Will Young in the 38th over, who played an excellent inning of 87 runs. He made his way to the pavilion by giving a brilliant catch to Nitish Reddy on Kuldeep’s ball. After this wicket, New Zealand’s score became 208 runs for three wickets.

Daryl Mitchell’s century

Daryl Mitchell batted brilliantly at one end, and completed his century despite the pressure on the Indian bowlers. He scored 100 runs in 96 balls and took his team to the target easily.

In the Indian team, KL Rahul batted brilliantly and scored a century. When India faced initial setbacks, Rahul took up the responsibility and pulled the team out of a difficult situation.

KL Rahul completed his eighth ODI century in the 49th over of the Indian innings. While being bowled by New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, Rahul registered his century by hitting a six on the last ball. He scored this century in 87 balls.

Gill’s useful contribution

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first. Apart from KL Rahul, captain Shubman Gill also made an important contribution for India by scoring 56 runs. Christian Clarke was the most successful bowler for New Zealand, taking three wickets. Other bowlers, Kyle Jamieson, Zakari Foulkes, Jayden Lennox and Michael Bracewell took one wicket each.
