BMC Election 2026 – Crowds flood polling stations, Devendra and Uddhav’s reputations at stake.

New Delhi: Voting is underway today for the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) elections in Mumbai, where a high voter turnout is being observed. Elections are also being held today for the municipal corporations of Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Vasai-Virar, Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi, and Mira-Bhayandar in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Voting began at 7:30 AM in all the municipal corporations, with long queues of voters seen at polling stations since early morning. Voting will continue until 5:30 PM. The political reputations of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar are at stake in these elections. The political future of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his younger brother Raj Thackeray will also be decided.

For these elections, the two Thackeray brothers, who have been politically opposed for a long time, have allied. A large number of police personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and order during the elections. 28,000 police personnel have been deployed in Mumbai. Police forces are stationed at all polling stations, from sensitive to highly sensitive ones. 64,375 personnel have been appointed to ensure the smooth conduct of elections for the 227 seats in Mumbai.
