Supreme Court Digital Fraud: The Central Government has filed its status report in the Supreme Court regarding the rapidly increasing cases of digital arrest fraud in the country. The FIR lodged by Delhi Police under the directions of the court has now been handed over to the CBI, after which the agency has registered a fresh FIR and started a formal investigation. This step has been taken at a time when new methods of cyber fraud are raising serious questions on the safety of common people.
Fraud of Rs 14.85 crore through digital arrest created a sensation
Recently, a so-called “digital arrest” was carried out through video call with an NRI doctor couple living in Greater Kailash area of Delhi. A shocking case of tax fraud of Rs 14.85 crore has come to light. Agencies preparing to reach the entire network

Central government asked for one month’s time
The Central Government also informed the Supreme Court that the committee constituted has sought one month’s time from the court. During this time, the committee will collect necessary inputs from other members and hold detailed discussions on this serious problem. After this a concrete and detailed report will be presented before the court. It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of many complaints related to digital arrest.
Formation of high-level inter-departmental committee
The Central Government has said in its report that the Home Ministry has imposed “Digital Arrest” A high-level inter-departmental committee has been formed to thoroughly investigate the cases. This committee will be headed by the Special Secretary for Internal Security in the Home Ministry.
The committee includes joint secretary level officials from the Ministry of Information Technology, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Consumer Affairs and RBI. Apart from this, IG rank officers of CBI, NIA and Delhi Police and Member Secretary of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (IC) are also part of this committee.
