Grok bans making obscene pictures with AI, decision of X

Grok AI Policy: Grok, an AI tool developed by xAI and included in X, is in the midst of controversy these days. Facing severe criticism over the issue of pornographic images arising from its misuse by users, the social media platform has now announced new restrictions on Grok. Now this tool will not be able to edit photos of real people in such a way that they appear in provocative or objectionable attire. This decision has been taken in view of the concerns being raised in many countries like UK and America, where AI tools were being misused to present images of people in an obscene manner.

company status

This restriction will apply to all users, whether they are free users or those with a paid subscription. Tech companies are under increasing pressure from government officials and regulators to prevent the potential harm caused by AI-generated content.

government action

There was increasing pressure internationally due to Grok’s ‘Spicy Mode’ feature on xAI. With the help of this feature, users could create objectionable deepfake photos of women and children through normal text. On January 10, Indonesia became the first country to completely block the service. A day later, Malaysia also took a similar decision.

Bharat said on Sunday that X had removed thousands of posts and taken action against several user accounts following its complaints. Meanwhile, Britain’s media regulator Ofcom has admitted that it will investigate whether X broke Britain’s laws regarding sexual characters.

France’s children’s commissioner, Sarah El Herry, also said she had referred cases related to Grok to the French public prosecutor, media regulator Arcom and the European Union.
