Why Did I Get Married? Star ‘Hated’ Filming the Tyler Perry Movie

Jill Scott recently revealed that she hated filming Tyler Perry’s iconic Why Did I Get Married?, which featured a particular heartbreaking scene on a flight. Scott, who was one of the two iconic singers to feature in the movie, claimed she “hated” doing the scene while describing the circumstances surrounding it.

During a podcast appearance, Jill Scott told Angie Martinez that Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? had many fat jokes at the expense of her character. The show centers on four couples going on a vacation.

Scott starred as Sheila in the film. In a heartbreaking scene in the movie, Sheila’s husband, played by Richard T. Jones, refuses to sit next to her because of her weight. This sets the tone for Sheila’s tragic story.

But during the shooting, Tyler Perry allegedly made the extras crack jokes about Jill Scott’s character off-camera. This did not sit well with the iconic singer. “The scene on the plane, Tyler [Perry] had extras make fun of me […] when I got on the plane,” she explained, “They were just going back and forth, making jokes about Sheila’s weight.”

Jill wore a fat suit for the role, but still, she did not like this experience. “But the folks on the flight really went in on fat jokes,” she continued, “It sucked.” She proceeded to address the camera, “Sorry, Tyler. I hated that sh*t.” She added, “Sincerely hated it.”

However, Scott had nothing bad to say about her co-star, Richard T. Jones, who played the hateful husband. “Richard T Jones is literally one of the nicest people on the planet and so funny, and so cool,” she added about him.

Perry confirmed last year that he finished the script for the third installment of Why Did I Get Married?
