Why is MI vs UPW WPL 2026 match in Navi Mumbai being played behind closed doors?
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 match on Thursday between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, will be conducted behind closed doors, without spectators.
“This decision has been taken in light of the Municipal Corporation Elections in Navi Mumbai on January 15, 2026,” the league said in a statement.
Even the match on Wednesday, January 14, between Delhi Capitals and Warriorz were played behind closed doors.
“Spectators will be permitted entry into the stadium from January 16, 2026 onwards, and all subsequent matches will be played with crowds in attendance,” the statement added.
The first leg of the WPL 2026 is being held in Navi Mumbai till January 17 before the tournament moves to Vadodara, with the first match on January 19.
