Record voting in BMC elections, the competition was interesting!

This time the voting in Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections has broken all the old records. There was tremendous enthusiasm among the voters during the whole day of voting and by late evening the participation reached a historic level. According to election sources, this time the estimated total voting percentage is expected to be between 65 to 68 percent, which is considered to be the highest so far in the history of BMC elections. The majority figure in BMC with 227 seats is 114.

Voting for 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra, including Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), was conducted peacefully. The voting process started at 7:30 am and continued till 5:30 pm. Till 3:30 pm, 41.08 percent voting was recorded in Mumbai, while the average voting in 29 municipal bodies across Maharashtra at the same time was 41.13 percent. Ward No. 114 (Bhandup) recorded the highest turnout of 53.34 percent, while Ward No. 227 Colaba recorded the lowest turnout of 15.73 percent.

Political analysts believe that bumper voting does not directly mean change of power, but it definitely shows that the competition is very tough and the results on many seats can be decided by small margins. Record turnout has turned this election into a triangular and in some places a quadrangular contest.

The initial exit polls released after voting ended have predicted a lead for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance. However the official election results will be declared tomorrow, 16 January 2026.

According to the estimated party-wise vote share, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) is expected to get 28–30 percent, BJP 30–32 percent, Congress 10–12 percent, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) 8–10 percent, while MNS and other parties together are expected to get 15–18 percent votes.

Now all eyes are on the counting of votes, because the decision of BMC coming to power after heavy voting is going to be very exciting.
