Two Minor Female Trainees Found Hanging At Sports Authority Of India Hostel
Kochi: The sports fraternity in Kerala, and indeed the entire country, was shocked beyond belief after two minor girls were found hanging inside a room at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala’s Kollam on Thursday.
The deceased trainees were identified as Sandra, 17, of Kozhikode district and Vyshnavi, 15, of Thiruvananthapuram district.
Kollam East police have initiated a probe into the twin deaths.
According to police, Sandra was an athletics trainee studying in Plus Two, while class X student Vyshnavi was a kabaddi player.
The tragedy came to light after fellow hostel inmates noticed that the two girls had not reported for the morning training session.
Repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, before the hostel authorities broke in to find both girls hanging from ceiling fans in the room.
Police said Vyshnavi was staying in a different room, but had spent Wednesday night in Sandra’s room.
The girls’ bodies will be handed over to relatives after post-mortem.
The reason why the girls took such drastic action is yet to be ascertained. No suicide note has been recovered from the room, police officials said.
Statements of other trainees in the hostel, their trainers and relatives will be recorded.
