Raptors emerge as potential landing spot for Ja Morant

The Toronto Raptors have surfaced as a possible destination for Memphis star Ja Morant, sources told Jake Fischer on The Stein Line. The Raptors previously explored trades for Trae Young, Anthony Davis, and Domantas Sabonis, signaling a willingness to pursue high-profile talent.

Morant, 26, has not requested a trade but was made available by the Grizzlies last week, surprising his camp and creating tension. He is currently in Europe meeting with advisors to evaluate potential moves.

Through 18 games this season, Morant is averaging 19.0 points, 7.6 assists, and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 20.8 percent from three-point range. Memphis sits 10th in the Western Conference at 17–22, reflecting struggles that have influenced trade considerations.

Morant’s contract runs through the 2027–28 season, part of a five-year, $197 million deal, providing financial certainty for any team acquiring him. The structure complicates negotiations but makes him a controllable star.

Toronto currently holds a 25–17 record, fifth in the Eastern Conference, and features Brandon Ingram, Scottie Barnes, and RJ Barrett as core contributors. The Raptors’ front office is targeting dynamic playmakers to complement their existing roster.

Miami has also emerged as a potential suitor, with Morant reportedly admiring Erik Spoelstra’s system and the Heat’s veteran culture. League sources indicate Memphis is likely seeking at least one first-round pick in any deal.

The point guard market is limited, with positional saturation making some teams unrealistic trade partners. Realistic suitors now appear to include Toronto, Miami, Brooklyn, Chicago, and Dallas.

Memphis is weighing whether immediate offers align with Morant’s value or if patience could yield stronger returns before the February 5 trade deadline. The Grizzlies’ openness marks a shift from prior reluctance to move their All-Star.
