Why is it auspicious to take bath today on Makar Sankranti?

According to astrology, the time eight hours before and eight hours after the transit of Sun God is considered auspicious period. According to astrologers, Sun God has entered Capricorn on the night of 14 January. For this reason, the auspicious period of Sankranti started at 03:13 pm on 14th January. This holy period is valid till this morning, hence it is considered best to take bath on Makar Sankranti today.

Makar Sankranti auspicious time for bathing and donating

According to the Panchang, today Brahma Muhurta will start from 05.27 am and will continue till 08.21 am. Taking bath in holy rivers and pilgrimage sites during this period is considered auspicious. The special time of the auspicious time of Makar Sankranti will be from 7.15 am to 8 am. It is said to be best to do virtuous deeds like bathing and charity during this period of about 45 minutes. However, one can take bath in any holy river including Ganga till 3 pm today.

What items to donate on Makar Sankranti

Donation has special significance on the day of Makar Sankranti. Khichdi made from rice can be donated on this day. Also, Shattila Ekadashi fast can also be broken early in the morning. Donating rice, sesame seeds, jaggery, grains, khichdi, blankets, clothes and ghee on Makar Sankranti gives good results.

Method of worship of Sun God on Makar Sankranti

  • Take bath in the holy river this morning.

  • Wear clean clothes after bathing.

  • Take Ganga water or pure water in a copper pot.

  • Add red sandalwood, red flowers and jaggery in it.

  • Offer Arghya while chanting the mantra of Sun God.

  • After this chant Gayatri Mantra.

  • Recite Surya Chalisa while sitting on the seat.

  • Recite Aditya Hridaya Stotra.

  • In the end, perform the aarti of Sun God as per the rituals.
