Indian Open 2026: PV Sindhu out, Kidambi Srikanth makes place in second round
Indian Open 2026, PV Sindhu Suffers First Round Exit: India’s star badminton player PV Sindhu crashed out of the competition after losing against Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam in the first round of women’s singles of the India Open Super 750 tournament on Wednesday. Sindhu started the match well and took the lead by winning the first game 22-20. However, they had to leave the tournament after losing the next two games 12–21 and 15–21.
PV Sindhu was out in the first round
For world number 12 and 2017 champion Sindhu, this is the third consecutive defeat against Nguyen. After reaching the semi-finals of Malaysia Open Super 1000 last week, the spectators were expecting a great performance in India Open as well. In the first game, Sindhu took the lead early and scored many important points. But in the second game, Nguyen made a quick comeback and scored consecutive points to win the game. The decisive third game also saw a tough fight between the two players, but in the end Nguyen won 21-14 and registered her third consecutive win against Sindhu.
Srikanth reached the next round
India’s Kidambi Srikanth performed brilliantly in men’s singles. He defeated Tharun Manepalli 15-21, 21-6, 21-19 to reach the second round. Srikanth made a strong comeback after losing the first game and overcame a tough challenge in the deciding game to win. He is likely to face fifth seed Christo Popov of France in his next match.
Malvika Bansod’s brilliant performance in women’s singles
Malvika Bansod, who was struggling with injuries in women’s singles, also played brilliantly. She defeated Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei 21-18, 21-19 to reach the second round. Now she will face world number five player Han Yui.

It was a mixed start for Indian players in the India Open. While Srikanth and Bansod made it to the second round, PV Sindhu failed to perform as per expectations. This defeat was a bit disappointing for Sindhu, but the performance of Srikanth and Bansod was encouraging.
