Maharashtra LIVE: Low voting, huge uproar, will the results of exit polls be true?

The results of the much awaited municipal corporation elections of Maharashtra are about to come. Counting of votes will start in some time. Voting was held on Thursday for the elections of 29 municipal corporations of the state including Mumbai, now the results are being released a day later on Friday. These elections were much awaited and are being held after 9 years. There was a lot of allegations and counter-allegations in the politics of Maharashtra on Thursday, now today is the day to read the decisions of the public.

Counting of votes for Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections will begin at 10 am on Friday. Till 3:30 pm, the average voting in the state was 46-50 percent. The highest turnout was in Kolhapur where 50.85% people voted, then people of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Mumbai voted. This is the first major municipal corporation election to be held in Maharashtra since 2017. There are 1,729 candidates in the fray for 227 seats of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

 

There was a huge uproar regarding ink in the elections. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and opposition group’s Uddhav Thackeray are at loggerheads over targeting the finger with a marker instead of applying ink on it. A look at BMC elections

All eyes are on BMC in the municipal elections of Maharashtra. Elections were held here after about four years and the contest was triangular. BJP-Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena (UBT)-MNS and Congress-VBA alliance contested the election. Voting took place in 227 wards, in which around 1,700 candidates were contesting. The civic body recorded 52.90% voting after polling ended at 5:30 pm on Thursday.

If Mahayuti wins, what promises will have to be fulfilled?

Highest voting took place in Kolhapur

Highest voting took place in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said that the total voting in 29 municipal corporations was between 46-50%. Till 3:30 pm, Kolhapur recorded the highest turnout of 50.85%, followed by Parbhani, Ahilyanagar, Malegaon, Ichalkaranji and Vasai-Virar. In Mumbai’s BMC elections, 41.08% voting was recorded till 3:30 pm, with 42,49,713 voters casting their votes.
