After Anganwadi, now school children will also get clothes stitched by Jeevika Didi

Bihar News: The state government has taken another important step towards simultaneously promoting child welfare and women employment. A scheme to provide clothes stitched by Jeevika Didis to children in Anganwadi centers has been started. Now preparations are being made to provide uniforms to primary school children on the same model.

Children from class one to five will also get Jeevika Didi’s dress.

Rural Development Minister Shri Shravan Kumar announced that on the lines of Anganwadi centres, now school children from classes 1 to 5 will also be given dresses stitched by Jeevika Didis. For this, coordination will be established with the education department. With this initiative, children will get quality clothes and rural women will also get new employment opportunities.

Joint launch of distribution of clothes at Anganwadi centers

In a program organized at Dashrath Manjhi Institute of Labor and Planning Studies, Rural Development Minister Shri Shravan Kumar and Social Welfare Minister Shri Madan Sahni jointly distributed clothes to the children of Anganwadi centres. During this period, a lot of enthusiasm was seen among the children. Happiness was clearly visible on the faces of the children who received the dresses, which made the objective of the program clearly visible.

Fifty lakh children will get clothes by March

It was told in the program that at present uniforms are being manufactured for about 50 lakh Anganwadi children and uniforms will be made available to all the children by March. This scheme is being implemented in a time bound manner so that no child is deprived of the benefits of the scheme. Preparations will be started in advance for the coming years also.

Lakhs of women are getting employment through garment manufacturing.

Minister Shravan Kumar said that dress manufacturing is becoming a strong medium to connect women associated with Jeevika group with self-employment. At present about one lakh women are involved in this work through 1050 sewing centres. A target has been set to increase this number to more than five lakh in the coming time, which will strengthen the rural economy.

Rural and urban women getting empowered through livelihood

Jeevika was started in the year 2006 with the support of the World Bank. Today, more than one crore forty lakh women have joined it through more than 11 lakh self-help groups in the state. It has not only become a medium of economic empowerment, but has also emerged as a strong platform for social awareness and against evils.

Nutrition system at Anganwadi centers will be strengthened

Social Welfare Minister Shri Madan Sahni said that children are being given eggs twice a week and milk daily at Anganwadi centres. Providing uniforms will develop a sense of equality in children. He urged the maids and assistants to pay special attention to the care and nutrition of children so that malnutrition can be effectively improved.

Rural employment will increase through material based schemes

Principal Secretary of Rural Development Department, Shri Pankaj Kumar said that the scheme of providing material instead of giving money is proving to be more effective. This provides quality clothes to children and also eliminates the possibility of misuse of money. Besides, this creates new opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment in villages.

All children will get benefits till March

Secretary of Social Welfare Department, Mrs. Bandana Preyasi said that Jeevika Didis have set an example by preparing dresses for 50 lakh children in a short time. By March, children of all Anganwadi centers will get uniforms. Under the scheme, each child will be given two dresses in a year which will fulfill their regular needs.

Technology boosted monitoring and training

Mobile app and software related to Stitch Monitoring System was also released during the program. Along with this, sewing training and production manual was released. Jeevika officials said that through technology, better monitoring of the quality and timeline of production will be possible.
