India lost in Indore, New Zealand won the series
Indore: The last match of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand was held today (January 18) at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. In this match, the Indian team had to face defeat by 41 runs. India had a target of 338 runs to win, but the team was all out for 296 runs in only 46 overs. With this victory, New Zealand won the ODI series 2-1. This is New Zealand’s first ODI series win on Indian soil.
First and second match of the series
The first match of the series was played in Vadodara, where the Indian team won by four wickets. After this, in the ODI held in Rajkot, New Zealand won by seven wickets and leveled the series. Now New Zealand won the series with the win in Indore.
Problems in India’s batting
The Indian team did not have a good start in the chase. Captain Rohit Sharma was out to Zakari Foulkes after scoring 11 runs. After this, Shubman Gill (23 runs) also became the victim of Kyle Jameson’s bowling. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul returned after scoring 3 and 1 respectively. When Rahul was out, India’s score was 71/4.
Partnership between Kohli and Nitish
After losing four wickets, Virat Kohli along with Nitish Kumar Reddy made a brilliant partnership of 88 runs for the fifth wicket. Kohli scored 50 runs in 51 balls, which included 4 fours and 1 six. While Nitish scored 53 runs on 52 balls. However, he could not last long after his half-century innings.
Kohli’s century and Harshit Rana’s contribution
After this, there was a partnership of 99 runs for the seventh wicket between Virat Kohli and Harshit Rana. Kohli completed his century in 91 balls, which included 8 fours and 2 sixes. This was Kohli’s 54th ODI career and 85th international century overall. Harshit Rana also completed his half-century by hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours, but unfortunately he too was out early.
New Zealand’s strong batting
New Zealand, after losing the toss and batting first, scored 337 runs for eight wickets. They had a very bad start, losing 2 wickets for the first 6 runs. Openers Henry Nicholls (0 runs) and Devon Conway (5 runs) were out early. But Daryl Mitchell and Will Young together took over the team. Mitchell completed his century in 107 balls with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes, which was his second consecutive ODI century. At the same time, Glenn Phillips scored 106 runs in 88 balls and took the team to a strong score.
