Jinping’s spy journalist caught in Taiwan, was helping China for years, leaked a lot of secret information
Taiwanese Journalist Arrested Spying for China: A Taiwanese journalist has been accused of sending sensitive information about Taiwan to China in the interest of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Taiwan’s security agencies arrested him on Saturday. It is alleged that he shared military information by bribing Taiwanese army officers. This move comes under strict policies to prevent possible infiltration from China on this self-ruled island.
Taiwan’s Chiaotzu District Prosecutors Office said the district court had ordered the detention of a TV reporter identified only as Journalist Lin and five current and retired military officers. Although the statement did not name the journalist, CTI TV confirmed the arrest of its reporter Lin Chen-you. The company said it did not have full information about the case, but called for a fair judicial process and wrote, “God bless Taiwan.”
Such allegations against journalists are unusual
Espionage within the government and military is routinely investigated in Taiwan, but such allegations against journalists are unusual. Beijing views Taiwan as its own and threatens to take control by force if necessary. After this incident, military pressure against the island has increased. Last month, the US had announced a large-scale arms sale to Taiwan, in protest against which the Chinese army conducted major military exercises around the island for two days.
Prosecutors allege that Lin paid a few thousand to tens of thousands of Taiwan dollars (about ten to hundreds of US dollars) to current military officials to provide information to “Chinese individuals.” It was not made clear whether these people were associated with the Chinese government or not. On Friday, authorities raided the premises of the journalist and nine military personnel. This was part of an investigation into national security laws, anti-corruption laws and disclosure of classified information.

What does Lynn do?
CTI TV offices were not raided. According to Lin’s Facebook page, he was a political reporter and anchor who covered Taiwan’s legislature. China and Taiwan have been governed separately since 1949. After the Communist Party came to power in Beijing in the civil war, defeated Nationalist Party forces moved to Taiwan, where a multi-party democracy later developed through a period of martial law.
