Guru’s house burnt in the fire of hatred, humanity trembled again in Bangladesh
News India Live, Digital Desk: Ever sit quietly and think how it feels when you become a stranger in your own house, in your own locality? In the place where childhood was spent, now at night before going to sleep, you worry that this night might be the last one. Reading these things may seem like a movie story to you, but this is the scary reality in our neighboring country Bangladesh across the border. This atmosphere of fear for the minorities, especially the Hindus, is not ending. The latest case is very sad and this news will shock you to the core. The news that has come from Bangladesh has proved that even a ‘teacher’ has no respect left in the eyes of the rioters. That night, when everything turned to ashes, just imagine the condition of that family. Birendra Kumar Dey, a resident of Gowainghat Upazila, whom the children and people there fondly call ‘Jhunu Sir’, was sleeping in his house. He is a teacher, a person who gave light to the society throughout his life. But in the darkness of last night, some anti-social elements set his house on fire. The fortunate thing is that Jhunu Sir and his family somehow managed to save their lives by escaping from the flames. But the house which they had built with their hard-earned money burnt down in front of their eyes. Not only bricks and stones were burnt, in that fire the ‘confidence of security’ which is the right of every citizen was also burnt. Question on the system: How long will the minority community endure? The situation that has arisen in Bangladesh for some time (especially after the political changes) is worrying. Sometimes temples are attacked during Durga Puja, and sometimes a Hindu is targeted over a trivial issue. People are saying in hushed tones that atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh are now becoming common. If teachers like Birendra Kumar Dey, who have nothing to do with politics, whose job is only to teach children, are not safe, then what will happen to the common man? There is deep anger among the local people after this incident, but more than that there is ‘fear’. The police come and talk about investigation, but why are the criminals’ morale so high? Why are they not afraid of the law? Social media noise and ground reality We and you can probably sit here and just write posts on social media, but it is difficult to feel the pain when everything is taken away from you just because of your ‘identity’. This incident is not just about burning of a house, it is a warning to what level hatred has now fallen. Today ‘Jhunu Sir’s house is burnt, tomorrow it could be someone else’s turn. People all over the world talk about Human Rights in Bangladesh, but unless strict action is taken against such criminals, the minority society will not be able to sleep peacefully. The surprising thing is that as neighbors we often ignore these news, but these are burning questions. There should be no place for arson and violence in a civilized society, even if it is against any religion. It is hoped that Bangladesh administration will wake up and the victim’s family will get not only compensation but also justice.
